Neighbourhood
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

Booked to stay at the South Place Hotel for 2 weeks for business nearby but unfortunately the Covid-19 situation meant I had to leave early to return to my home country. Nonethelss, my short stay was very enjoyable, not just because the hotel is a little gem tucked away in the heart of the city, but also because the staff were amazingly welcoming and 'proper' 5 star! I look forward to the chance of returning again sometime in more relaxed circumstances.

Hotel's Favourite
This is a little gem at the very heart of the City. Super-conveniently located - just a few minutes walk from Liverpool Street station - but at a side street, away from the main car traffic and street noise. The moment you walk in, you feel the place is really special - the sensual spicy scent, the fireplace, the bar getting lively on a Sunday evening - it's very atmospheric. As for the rooms - my studio was quite spacious for one, comfortable, with modern decor, and immaculately clean - the housekeeping team are doing an outstanding job. Nice side street view, great sleep quality. Plus the little things that make you feel as if someone thought about your comfort - the adjustable light colour, an electrical socket in the safe box, lemon and lime in the mini bar. Gym (spacious, well equipped) and sauna (clean, cosy) waiting out there if you need some exercise after a long day. The downstairs restaurant and bar are lovely, elegant but unpretentious - ideal for a light evening meal or a drink. It is really easy to find a good spot - whether you are alone going through office papers, or enjoying a drink in a company. The place is ideally suited to single/ business travellers, and couples. Last but not least - the staff are very polite and helpful. Big thanks to Gregory for his help to manage the early check-out/ late flight case.

Stayed here 2 nights. The hotel has a lively bar scene on a Friday and the Michelin starred restaurant (angler) was absolutely excellent. The hotel room was comfortable and spacious but the pillows are far too soft even for somebody that prefers soft to firm. The TV had a mind of its own and was awkwardly placed. The bathrooms are roomy and lux but wearing slightly and there was a very strong stench I can only describe as the changing rooms at a lido. We had a heavy water leak from the bathroom ceiling which was concerning but didn’t affect our stay as it occurred as were packing for check out. The room all throughout the weekend was noisy because of its location but on a plus, they are dog friendly and provide doggy packs to guests. All the staff were friendly and professional and there was a good selection of breakfast options which were very tasty.

Had a fab weekend here, lovely check in, decent size room, with space used very well, huge bath and great amenities. The location was in the city of London and therefore very quiet indeed, literally a ghost town ! Loved every minute of it. Cocktails, tea in the afternoon and breakfast were all perfect. We dined in the Chop house (separate review) and did go up to their Michelin starred restaurant, which again was stunning, we will be back soon, thank you
